The core of any spiritual life is prayer, and that basic foundation holds true for a church. As with any practice, there is improvement. The improvement we as truth students and seekers of spiritual awareness experience during our practice of prayer is a deepening connection to Spirit, a strengthening of the flow of guidance. As our individual consciousness expands, it spills over into the spiritual consciousness of our church. This is one spill we like!
Charles Fillmore wrote a book entitled As a Man Thinketh. The title reminds us that our thoughts are our prayers. Take that one step further and you are living a life of prayer, consciously or unconsciously. At Unity North we have a number of opportunities and practices for expanding our conscious, personal practice of living a life of prayer. Every Sunday during services there is a time of holding prayer requests followed by a short meditation. On Wednesday evenings we have a time of meditation, a time to enter the silence.
We also have prayer teams that pray with and for your requests on a daily basis. Throughout the New Testament, Jesus speaks to the activity of needing to ask: "Hitherto you have asked nothing.....ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be full." (John 16:24) This service is available to anyone; you need only call the church and tell Carol Kniskern of your request. She will contact a prayer team that will immediately start praying for you. Those of us on the prayer teams find this to be a very rewarding experience. Please ask; we at Unity North want your joy to be full.
There is another opportunity awaiting you. You have the privilege to join in these experiences by becoming a member of the Prayer Ministry and to serve in the deepening of our combined prayer consciousness. We offer a number of different ways to serve on the Prayer Ministry; these are opportunities to serve this community, and in the process of serving, you are given the gift of a greater awareness of spirit, a personal quickening of your spiritual life. As your spiritual life is quickened, so is the spiritual consciousness of your church.
