Unity North Church Healing Services
Healing Services are on the Fourth Sunday of every other month (beginning with February) during the 8:45 and 11 AM church services and on Wednesday evenings at 5:30 PM.
Our healing services represent our commitment to the pursuit and acceptance of the wholeness that Spirit intends for us. It not only carries forth Unity's principles of prayer and healing but also follows the example of Jesus.
The Unity Movement began when Myrtle Fillmore successfully pursued her own healing. She believed that since she was the offspring of a Divine Parent who does not become ill, that illness was not part of her true inheritance. Given a few months to live, she appealed to the intelligence that she knew resides within every cell of the body. She prayed, gave thanks, and became well.
Jesus healed at a distance; he healed by the laying on of hands, and he healed with clay. He recognized that people accept healing in varying ways. The Gospels say he sent his followers out to spread his teachings and to heal the sick. We are following the example of our elder brother. Unity North has been holding healing services since our beginning in 1993.
All of the healers have had formal training in hands-on healing. Some have studied Reiki, some use the chelation technique taught by Rosalyn Bruyere, while some use a hands-off technique as taught by the Esoteric Healing School in England. Some have also been trained in massage, acupressure or shiatsu.
This work is intended to facilitate the movement of energy through the body which can be accompanied by the movement of emotions as well. This is expected and the tissues are kept handy. Participants may feel warmth, movement, tingling, or just gentle relaxation.
Sunday Healing Services
The healing service begins with prayer and song. Then, those who will be channels of healing for that day stand by their chairs. When a recipient is ready, he or she chooses an open chair and sits down. Healers often inquire if there is something in particular the recipient wants attention to.
During the first half of the service, music is played softly in the background. During the second half, to help hold the focus, all are lead gently in song. Prayers are offered for the healing of those not present.
Wednesday Night Healing Service
A weekly healing service is offered on Wednesday evenings before the 7:00 PM meditation and discussion. At 5:30, tables are available on a first-come, first-served basis. At that time, recipients may receive longer sessions than are available in the chairs at the Sunday healing service.
These services are offered as a gift to our community. No fees are charged. If someone wishes to leave an offering, we will graciously accept it; it can be left discretely in the receptacle by the door.
Responsibilities of the Recipient
- Recipients are asked to maintain a receptive attitude.
- Recipients are encouraged to immediately assert anything that is not comfortable to them.
- Since healers sometimes receive intuitive impressions while they are working, recipient should make it clear in the beginning if they are interested in hearing the impressions of their healer.
- After their time with a healer, we ask that recipients stay for the remainder of the service (which could be up to two hours) in order to help pray and to hold the healing focus. However, if you must leave, go with our blessings.
Responsibilities of Healers
- Physical and emotional comfort of the recipients is paramount.
- Healers offer their impressions only when invited to do so.
- Since our purpose is the movement of the body's own healing energy, healers do not diagnose disease.
- We remember at all times that we are simply channels of blessing, the true healing work
